In photos: Investigation begins at site of fire-hit Highbridge Hotel

These were the scenes in Highbridge on Wednesday morning (April 23rd) after a huge fire at the former Highbridge Hotel last night caused major disruption in the Burnham area.

Police investigators were at the scene, examining the property and spokesman Dan Mountain told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "Officers are at the scene with fire investigators trying to establish the cause. Market Street remains closed - and may do so for some time due - due to the stability of the property."

Fire brigade spokeswoman Janet Booth added: "It is too early yet to say whether the fire was deliberately set alight or not."

Fire crews were still at the scene on Wednesday morning, damping down.

A hydrauylic platform was used by the fire crews to inspect the property.

Church Street was closed to traffic, causing major delays for motorists.

The scene near the former hotel was still closed off by police.
