Record crowds flock to Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront rescue services day

-

Dozens of emergency services from across the West Country gathered in Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday (August 25th) for the town’s annual rescue services day.

Large crowds of people headed to the seafront through the day, boosted by the hot weather, to support the various charities and groups, and also see scores of displays and demonstrations held on Burnham seafront and beach.

There were displays of BARB hovercrafts, RNLI lifeboats, Coastguards, ambulances, fire engines, 4x4s, a rescue helicopter and more — including two Stormtroopers!

The event, which was opened by Mayor Cllr Andy Brewer and Town Crier Alistair Murray, saw more than 20 different groups taking part.

Organiser Roger Flower, from BARB, thanked those who had attended and said it had been a “very successful day with record crowd numbers.”
