Burnham-On-Sea double amputee completes six miles of Tough Mudder challenge

-

An inspirational Burnham-On-Sea double amputee has completed six miles of an gruelling fundraising challenge for charity.

Toby French – whose legs are both amputated below the knee – has taken part in the Tough Mudder Challenge for two charities close to his heart.

Toby is attempting unique fitness challenges throughout 2019 and has recently completed the 5km Tough Mudder.

While Toby had hoped to complete the 10-mile Tough Mudder course with its 25 obstacles, he is still rightly proud to have completed six miles.

“Unfortunately I found after six miles that I couldn’t keep my prosthetic legs in place because the suspension sleeves had got so wet that they were ‘misfiring’ and weren’t working correctly,” Toby told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“While I was disappointed not to have completed the whole course, I am happy to have done six miles – my furthest ever distance – which is good after many months of training.”

He added: “I was feeling rather low about not finishing initially, but the supportive comments from friends and local people on social media have buoyed me up.”

“I am looking forward to giving it another go next year.”

Toby added: “I am raising money for two great charities – BARB Search and Rescue, who I volunteer with, and Alzheimer’s Society as dementia is destroying our loved ones minds.”
