Burnham-On-Sea’s popular baking competition The Great Burnham Bake Off is set to return to the town on Saturday 23rd May with a new challenge.
The Spring contest, sponsored by Retreat Caravan Park, has been launched this week with budding cake, bread and meringue makers being sought.
Organiser Beverley Milner Simonds said: “The Great Burnham Bake Off has been such a popular competition at the last five Food and Drink Festivals that this time we have tweaked the competitions to specifically include our young bakers. We are not only looking for the best cakes, but also bread and 6 meringues for our Technical Challenge.”
Fellow organiser Sarah Milner Simonds added: “The ‘Technical Challenge’ last time was searching for Millionaires Shortbreads, but this time we want six matching meringues. The overall champion in May baked an amazing chocolate cake and so we embraced this traditional baking by including lemon drizzle cake and Victoria sponge categories.”
Sponsor Debbie March said: “The Great Burnham Bake Off has become an established part of the local calendar and we are very proud to be the sponsor. I am champion of young bakers and I am delighted to bring this new competition to the ‘Bake Off’.”
Bakers can download entry forms and rules from the festival’s website here and present a completed form and their entry before 2pm on Saturday 23rd May at Somerset Skills & Learning in Burnham’s Princess Street.
