Photos: Berrow beach access road shut by council after damage

The access road onto Berrow beach has this week been closed to all traffic by Sedgemoor District Council following damage caused by winds and high tides.

As pictured here, the concrete road surface is crumbling away, and with sand washed away from around it, there is a drop onto the beach that could potentially damage vehicles.

Spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “With overnight sand drifting and the section of road onto the beach being washed away with high tides, access onto the beach with a vehicle is denied.”

She added: “We are now in a cycle of high tides and therefore the access road will not be usable until Tuesday 10th October when a digger will commence the rebuild of the section of road to enable vehicular access once again.”

“Brean beach remains open for cars to park on the beach, but caution is necessary as tides are high and fast with strong winds.”

Access to The Sundowner Cafe, next to the access road is unaffacted and it remains open for business as usual.
