New owner of former garage hopes to keep it as a commercial site

-

A former garage in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea which has been sold at a public auction looks set to be retained as a commercial premises.

The former Vicarage Garage next to Burnham’s Post Office in Vicarage Street has gone under the hammer at an auction and sold for £108,000.

It had a guide price of £80,000 – £140,000, which attracted plenty of interest, said Paul Gass of Burnham’s Gary Berryman estate agents.

“We had lots of interest in the site and the new owners are keen to renovate it and retain it as a commercial premises, not to develop it into residential accommodation.”

He added: “The building does need a lot of work, but no-one wants to see more flats. It’s a good buy for a large town centre site.”

The auction was held at The Oaktree and saw eight other lots up for grabs, with a total of £1.5m of sales completed on the night.
