£4,000 of metal stolen during burglaries in Burnham area this week

-

Thieves have stolen more than £4,000 of metal during two burglaries in the Burnham-On-Sea area over the past week, prompting a fresh security warning from police.

A large quantity of scrap metal was taken from the Viridor waste facility in Bennett Road, Highbridge (pictured) in an overnight attack at the start of the week.

And in a separate burglary in East Brent, thieves forced their way into a property and removed cash, tools, a laptop computer and a large amount of copper metal.

Burnham Police Inspector Roger Tolley believes the two incidents are likely to be linked, with the thieves removing the material for its scrap value.

“We would advise residents and businesses in the area to ensure metal is locked away securely out of sight,” he told Burnham-On-Sea.com. “Properties need to look as unattractive to potential thieves as possible,” he added.
