Care Centre in Burnham-On-Sea shuts down amid funding shortfall

-

A care centre set up in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea has been forced to shut down this week due to a funding shortfall.

The Care Centre in College Street opened in September last year to provide facilities for self-help groups and support for sufferers, their carers and families.

But manager Gaynor Brown, who co-founded the centre, says the organisation has struggled to find enough funding to meet its running costs.

She told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m very disappointed that we have had to close. Unfortunately, some promised funding from another organisation has been withdrawn and that has left us with a shortfall and no option but to close down.”

Gaynor, pictured, added: “The centre has been well supported over the year with more than ten groups using our facilities. We expect them to continue to operate from other facilities in Burnham.”

She thanked those who had supported and used the centre over the past 12 months.

The centre’s furniture, including a therapy bed, is being sold this week.
