Crop growing project gets underway at Burnham’s Marine Cove

-

Volunteers at Burnham’s Marine Cove gardens on the town’s seafront have been planting edible crops in flower beds this week as a new summer project gets underway.

The community-led project is being undertaken with funding from Sedgemoor District Council’s Health Promotion Team.

Salad crops are being planted this week and on set days throughout the summer to encourage the local community to enjoy the produce and learn more about eating healthily.

Lianne Clarke, Sedgemoor’s Health Promotion Officer, added: “Sedgemoor is keen to support this project as it is a great opportunity for local volunteers to come together and learn how to grow their own food to create healthy meals for all the family.”

“This type of project benefits volunteers physically, mentally and socially and allows the community to enjoy local green space whilst taking part in healthy and fun activities.”
