Recorded ‘shopping music’ could be introduced in Burnham High Street

-

People wandering along Burnham-On-Sea High Street could soon be entertained by background music from the town’s band, pictured above, in an effort to get shoppers to return more regularly.

A proposal to play recorded music from speakers along the street during the daytime to give shoppers a ‘warm, homely feeling’ was discussed at the latest meeting of the Town Council’s Town Improvements Committee.

Town Centre Manager Anne-Marie SpaldingThe plan is at a very early stage, said Town Centre Manager Anne-Marie Spalding (pictured right), but she confirmed it is one of several proposals under consideration.

“It has been mentioned, but there would be a lot to think about if it were to be introduced,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“It would need to be licenced, music dues paid, maintenance and equipment bought etc.”

“The issue of licensing will need to be looked at – probably by the Town Council – as any entertainment/music in towns now needs to have a licence.”

“I had said that it would be a nice idea as it has a ‘feel good’ factor, but some ideas are unfortunately not always practical.”
