BMW smashes through lamp posts and wall in Burnham-On-Sea crash

-

One man has been rushed to hospital after this car careered off a road in Burnham-On-Sea, demolishing two lamp posts, smashing through a brick wall and ending up in a front garden early on Sunday (May 10th).

Residents in Marine Drive were woken by the sound of a series of loud bangs at 4.15am as the BMW with three people inside smashed through a wall on the corner of Marine Drive and Highburn Close, close to the entrance to Apex Wildlife Park.

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, resident Terry Heuze said: “We heard a loud bang early this morning and rushed out into the road to see what had happened.”

“Smoke was still rising into the air from the car, which had gone through a garden and several lamp posts and was left badly damaged.”

“Two people had run off from the car and another one was sitting in a dazed state in the garden, clearly injured.”

“The police were very quickly on the scene and the injured man was taken away in an ambulance. He looked in a bad state.”

Nearby resident Trevor Bartlett added to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I came out at 4.30am and could hardly believe my eyes.”

“It was a hell of a smash – the car has caused a great deal of damage. Fortunately, no-one was in the garden or some could have been killed or seriously injured.”

Residents across that part of town report hearing the collision. Marine Drive’s Pauline Hardy added: “I was woken by a loud bang and a crash. It was quite a shock.”

Meanwhile, police have already begun their investigation into the incident and have appealed for witnesses to come forward via the usual Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111.
