New warning after car is submerged by incoming tide on Brean beach

-

A fresh safety warning has been issued to motorists to check tide times before driving onto beaches in the Burnham-On-Sea area after this car became the latest to get stranded last night (Friday, July 11th).

The Ford Focus estate became inundated by the incoming tide shortly before 6.30pm when its owner walked off onto Brean Down for a trip to the fort.

The beach warden searched for the owner without luck while the high tide completely surrounded the vehicle, as pictured here.

Beach warden Dave Furber told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “This latest incident serves as another warning about checking the high tide times before driving onto the beach and heeding warning signs.”

The car’s owner, who is from Devizes in Wiltshire, was shocked to find the vehicle with pools of water around it when he returned later in the evening.

Four other vehicles have got stuck this year. A car was rescued on April 13th and a separate incident on March 9th saw a tractor pull a stranded car from the mud. There was a further incident on April 20th when a family’s vehicle got into difficulty and another car also got stuck on May 27th, as reported here.
