Burnham-On-Sea newsagent burglary: Thousands of cigarettes stolen

-

Thousands of cigarettes have been stolen in an overnight burglary at a newsagent in Burnham-On-Sea.

Police were called to GW Hurleys in Burnham High Street at 1.50am on Wednesday morning (November 2nd) where several intruders had entered the building.

Owner Colin Morris told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “They forced their way into the building, then pushed over a whole shelf of cigarettes and used dustbins to collect up the packets. It was a terrible mess and a large quantity has been stolen.”

Police have appealed for witnesses and are also checking CCTV footage to see whether it captured the incident.

Police spokesman Wayne Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were called to reports of a break-in at a newsagents in High Street in Burnham at about 1.50am.”

“Entry was forced into the property and a quantity of cigarettes taken. We would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the incident who may have information to help our enquiries.”

Anyone with information should contact police on the non emergency number 101, quoting reference 5216243665.

It’s the latest in a series of late night crime incidents along Burnham’s High Street in recent months.

In August, we reported on a ram raid at Burnham-On-Sea’s Laptop Shop in the High Street when intruders took iPads and laptops that were later recovered.

In October, there was a late night burglary at Burnham-On-Sea’s Superdrug when a large amount of stock was removed by burglars.
