Local couple plan to walk 84 miles for charity close to their hearts

-

A local couple are preparing to walk the entire 84 mile length of Hadrian’s Wall to raise see funds for a charity close to their heart.

Chris and Carol Mason, from the village of Mark near Burnham-On-Sea, are taking on the challenge to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.

Chris says: “My wife Carol and I have lived in Mark for 20 years. With our dog Alfie we are walking the 84 mile length of Hadrian’s Wall from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway between the 12th and 17th May 2025 to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK.”

“My father died ten years ago on the date of this walk due to complications caused by Prostate Cancer and its treatment.”

“I was diagnosed in 2023 and now thankfully, post-surgery, I am 17 months cancer free.”

“During our walk, we will pass through Haltwhistle, the very Town where Father met and married my Mother, and where my Grandparents are buried.”

He adds: “Prostate Cancer UK works hard to raise awareness and fund the research that will lead to earlier and more comprehensive testing and diagnosis and more revolutionary and less invasive treatment.”

“Whatever you can afford to donate will be very much appreciated. If possible, spread the word about this fundraising but, also, and most importantly, encourage your loved ones to have a simple PSA test for that all-important early warning.”

“Had I not had the great good fortune to have a wife who insisted I get a routine check, I could have been one of the “too-late” statistics.”
