Beach litter clean held by the Friends of Burnham-On-Sea Beach

-

Over 20 volunteers joined a beach clean in Burnham-On-Sea organised by the Friends of Burnham Beach on Saturday (April 5th).

The group collected eighteen bags of litter and their largest item to date.

Organiser Mark Hollidge said: “A healthy number of volunteers joined the regulars and enjoyed a morning in the sunshine.”

”The largest item ever recovered from the estuary was found – a huge and heavy block of polystyrene, about the size of a single bed.”

“Fortunately it was mostly intact. In general there was a lot of polystyrene found and one can only wonder why this material is still being used. Broken down into fragments it presents a serious health risk to wildlife.”
