Former tourism boss in Burnham-On-Sea receives MBE in New Year Honours

-

Burnham-On-Sea resident Bob Nicholson has been awarded an MBE in the Queen’s New Year Honours list, announced on Saturday (December 29th).

Bob, pictured, has received the award for his services to tourism after serving as the Chairman of Somerset Tourism Association.

Bob, who stepped down from the role last year after 25 years in the role, is said to be deeply honoured by the recognition.

He oversaw the creation of the Somerset Tourism Association from its humble beginnings as the smaller Sedgemoor Tourism Association. From his base in Brean, he worked hard to promote the Burnham-On-Sea area to tourists over a quarter of a century.

Bob, who lives on Burnham’s Esplanade, was also recognised locally when he was presented with a Burnham and Highbridge Civic Award in 2008, as featured here.
