Burnham-On-Sea yachtsmen compete for Queen’s Trophy

A strong breeze, warm temperatures and a calm sea provided ideal conditions for the yachtsmen who took part in Burnham Sailing Club’s annual Queen’s Trophy event.

Some 11 yachts set sail in Bridgwater Bay for the popular event, which is named after the former Queen’s Hotel in Burnham, which used to sponsor it.

The racing fleet is shown in the photo above trying to catch up with Graham Wills’ yacht Swiftwind just after the start of the race. The lead yacht above is Doug Basterfield’s Kittiwake.

Of the 11 yachts competing, three retired and one headed back to shore following a minor collision that resulted in the loss of a rudder.
