Town swimming pool could be knocked down and replaced with new one

A question mark is hanging over the future of Burnham-On-Sea swimming pool, with a review underway that could recommend it be knocked down.

Consultants working for Sedgemoor District Council, the owners of the 30-year-old pool, are giving the building a check over before advising the authority on what to do with it.

Extensive maintenance work is needed to bring the pool and changing rooms up to modern standards – and therefore the building could be levelled and rebuilt at the existing site on Berrow Road or a new one be constructed at King Alfred School as part of a bigger leisure complex.

The consultants are due to report back to Sedgemoor’s executive board in late October or early November and a decision is expected soon after.

Leisure Manager Nigel Roderick said: “It’s a review to make sure we are delivering good services for the money we use.”
