Weather warning issued as heavy rain could disrupt Christmas travel

-

Parts of the Burnham-On-Sea area are on a flood alert this weekend as the Met Office warns of more heavy rain sweeping in.

An amber warning has been issued by the Met Office for the region, as pictured here, as outbreaks of torrential rain and strong to gale force winds are predicted during Saturday and Sunday.

“Further bands of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds are expected to move northeastwards across the southwest of England through Saturday and early Sunday,” said a Met Office spokesman.

“Given that the ground is already saturated, the public should be prepared for the risk of localised flooding from both rivers and surface water. This could well lead to disruption to travel, with a low likelihood of severe disruption.”

The wet weather will be accompanied by mild temperatures, ending any last remaining hopes of a white Christmas.
