BARB helps RSPCA's bird influx
VOLUNTEERS from Burnham-based rescue charity BARB have been helping the RSPCA in dealing with the arrival of hundreds of seabirds this week. The RSPCA's West Hatch animal rescue centre near Taunton has been struggling to cope with an influx of 500 birds.
550 new homes edge closer
PLANS to build up to 550 new homes in Highbridge have moved a step closer this week with the submission of the plans to Sedgemoor District Council. Burnham-On-Sea.com first reported earlier this year that hundreds of new homes are earmarked for the Brue Farm site.
Wrong-way M5 driver jailed
A DRUNK woman who drove the wrong way for 23 miles along the M5 motorway past Burnham-On-Sea has been jailed for nine months this week. Deborah Hunt, 43, from Langport, drove north on the southbound carriageway of the M5 in July, from Bridgwater to Weston.
£2,100 boost for fighting fund
A FUNDRAISING wine tasting and tapas evening has this week helped raise £2,100 for the campaign to halt wind turbines from being erected in Rooksbridge, near Burnham-On-Sea. The event at Wedmore Golf Course was held on September 3rd by the No Pilrow action group.
Two arrested after bar 'fight'
Exclusive: A BAR doorman was injured after an incident outside a Brean pub during the early hours of Wednesday morning (September 7th). Two people were arrested by Burnham police after an alleged fight at Krackers Bar in South Road, Brean at 1.15am.
Town club feeling in the pink

Tessa Munt met over 80 members of the No Pilrow campaign, which is opposing proposals by Broadview Energy to build six 140 metre turbines on farmland at Pilrow, approximately one kilometre south of Rooksbridge.

Chip pan causes town blaze
BURNHAM-On-Sea's fire crews were called to a blaze at a Highbridge home early today (Saturday) which was caused by an unattended chip pan. Crews from Burnham and Bridgwater rushed to Sparks Way at 1.43am where the property had been evacuated of occupants.

Exclusive: THE Environment Agency has reassured beach users in Burnham-On-Sea that this brown gloopy substance being washed up along the town's tideline this week is "a perfectly harmless algae." Its statement comes amid concerns from beach users that the unsightly substance could be toxic.

CALM weather combined with one of the highest tides of the year generated idyllic scenes in Burnham-On-Sea on Tuesday evening (August 30th). The 11.79m high tide at 8.43pm was among the six highest tides of 2011, sweeping beaches clean of litter and touching the foot of the dunes at Berrow.
Children's Mission visit beach
YOUNG members of Burnham-On-Sea's Lighthouse Children’s Mission have taken to the town's beach for two days of fun and games. The event, sponsored by The Lighthouse Christian Fellowship, was held on the sand next to Burnham Pavilion over the past week.
