EARLY morning seafront walkers in Burnham-On-Sea were treated to a glimpse of the historic 50 year-old ship Balmoral as it glided past the town this morning (Tuesday, September 8th). The Balmoral was on a trip up the River Parrett to Dunball, near Bridgwater, to collect several hundred passengers booked on an excursion.

A FORMER Burnham-On-Sea police officer has this week been welcomed back to the town's police station. Inspector Roger Tolley, pictured right, has replaced Sam Williams, who has moved to Taunton to head up that beat. Roger lives in the Burnham area and left for Taunton in April 2007.

A BURNHAM-On-Sea couple have this week urged town councillors to step in and halt the introduction of thousands of extra recycling waste bins across the town. Mike and Sylvia Young, from St Michael's Road, told town councillors on Monday evening (September 7th) that plans to issue new food waste recycling bins to all residents are "a step too far."

ANTI-social behaviour in Highbridge has been 'drastically reduced' following the launch of a new landlords group. HALT, the Highbridge Landlords Together group, has been formed in recent months to stamp out petty crime and anti-social behaviour, particularly in and around Highbridge Quay.

AN £80,000 project to repair Burnham-On-Sea's ailing jetty began on Monday (September 7th). The work started on Monday morning and the district council's contractors, Boley and Skuse, will be replacing a large section of missing road surface, resetting coping stones and repairing the flank walls over coming weeks.

STRONG winds and heavy rain during recent days reduced the number of entries at the annual Watchfield Flower and Vegetable Show, held near Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday (September 5th). The event, now in its 23rd year, attracted 240 entries, well down on previous years.

THE body of what is thought to be a young porpoise or dolphin was washed up on Berrow beach this morning (Saturday, September 5th), the second such discovery this summer. Sedgemoor District Council's Clean Surroundings Team was called at around 8.30am to remove the carcass.

BAD weather has forced the cancellation of this weekend's annual procession of illuminated yachts in Burnham-On-Sea. The colourful display of decorated yachts had been due to be held this Saturday evening (September 5th), but strong winds and bad weather has forced a re-think.

BURNHAM-On-Sea High Street will be closed to traffic on Sunday evening (August 30th) when a town centre pub holds one of its popular outdoor street parties. A huge lorry will stretch across the street to become a make-shift stage for musicians outside the Somerset and Dorset pub.
BURNHAM-On-Sea High Street will be closed to traffic on Sunday evening (August 30th) when a town centre pub holds one of its popular outdoor street parties. A huge lorry will stretch across the street to become a make-shift stage for musicians outside the Somerset and Dorset pub.

Exclusive: A well-known Burnham-On-Sea resident has travelled more than 250 miles to hand a lost handbag to its owner after finding it on a train. Fomer Mayor Peter Burridge-Clayton was travelling home with his family afer a day out when they spotted the handbag under a seat.

PIRATE-themed fun has been enjoyed by over 70 children at a holiday club in Burnham-On-Sea over the past week. Burnham Baptist Church's annual summer club, for children aged 5-11, ended on Friday afternoon (August 28th) after a busy week of activities and fun at the church in College Street.
