SEDGEMOOR'S Dog Wardens are offering dog owners in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge a chance to have their pets micro chipped. Micro chipping is now recognised as the most effective and secure way of permanently identifying a pet. Two sessions will be held next month in the town.

Fireworks get £3,000 boost
THE company supplying fireworks to Burnham-On-Sea's annual seafront display has this week donated fireworks worth almost £3,000 to the event to make up for the disappointment of last year's cancelled event. Skyburst The Firework Company has delighted organisers at the town council by giving extra fireworks to the value of £2,875 to this year's display, which will be held on Sunday 9th November at 7pm.

The Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) has told stations across the UK that they are no longer allowed to send up illuminating flares during search and rescue operations.

TWO fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea tackled a rubbish fire on the outskirts of Highbridge on Saturday afternoon (October 25th). Firefighters were called at 1.45pm to the Clyce, besides the River Brue, where a large pile of rubbish had been set alight inside a concrete tank.

BURNHAM-On-Sea's Mayor and the organiser of the town's entry into this year's Britain In Bloom competition were handed a sought-after silver award during a special presentation on Friday evening (October 24th). Cllr Peter Burridge-Clayton and Burnham In Bloom's Dave Perrett received the Silver Gilt award from judge Terry Porter.

BURGLARS carried out an attack on a shop in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea during the early hours of Thursday morning (October 23rd). IMPROVING the town centre of Burnham-On-Sea will be the theme for a special meeting of the town's Chamber of Trade and Commerce on Tuesday evening (October 21st). A YOUNG grey seal pup has been washed up on Brean beach, just a fortnight after a common seal was found on the sands. Wildlife carers from Secret World at East Huntspill were called to Brean Cove on Sunday afternoon (October 19th) after a walker spotted the young seal near the base of Brean Down.

WESTERN Power Distribution restored electricity to homes in the centre of Highbridge in the early hours of Sunday morning (October 19th) following a seven hour power cut. Residents in Market Street were without power from 6.51pm on Saturday night until 2.11am on Sunday.

A FIRE crew from Burnham-On-Sea was unable to save this vehicle after it was deliberately set alight in the early hours of Saturday morning (October 18th). LONG-awaited work to complete Burnham-On-Sea's 'road to nowhere', the half-completed Frank Foley Parkway, finally began on Friday (October 17th). Somerset County Council started site clearance work to remove overgrown shrubs and brambles along the road line.

Tickets have just gone on sale this week for the event, to be held on Saturday November 15th at Home Farm Holiday Park in Burnham. Stardust amassed seven Top Ten entries in a chart span lasting almost 25 years.

Swan released back onto lake
AN injured cygnet which was retrieved by wildlife rescuers from a Highbridge lake last month after swallowing a length of fishing line has been nursed backed to good health and released back onto the water this week. Secret World Wildlife Centre helped the bird at Apex Park with a boat crew.

Speed crackdown gathers pace
POLICE stepped up their crackdown against halt anti-social driving along Burnham-On-Sea's seafront on Sunday (October 12th) as the campaign for safety improvements continued. Burnham Police held a special event on the Esplanade to get the views of local residents about how to tackle speeding and anti-social driving.

A FORMER contestant from BBC One's Dragon's Den TV series visited a garden centre near Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday (October 12th) to hold a series of food tasting sessions. Michael North pitched his business idea for an Olive Oil Club to the judges of the hit show.

A NEW Italian restaurant has defied the current financial gloom by opening its doors to the public in Burnham-On-Sea this weekend. Bonomo restaurant has started trading at 30-32 Adam Street, and says its authentic Italian cuisine is already proving popular with diners.
