Burnham and Highbridge Poppy Appeal raises record total of £31,016 in a fortnight

-

A huge total of £31,016.62 has been raised by generous Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge residents for the Royal British Legion during the annual Poppy Appeal, it has been announced this week.

Generous local residents across the Burnham-On-Sea area dug deep earlier this month to donate to the appeal by buying thousands of poppies in the run-up to Remembrance Day.

Organiser Ruth Crosby, pictured above, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Burnham and Highbridge have again done themselves proud by donating a record sum.”

“The money collected to date this year has reached a superb total of £31,016.62 which is up on this time last year.”

“To have collected such a huge amount in a fortnight is incredible. We are so delighted and a big thank you goes to everyone who donated and supported us.”

“We’d like to thank all all our wonderful volunteer collectors who gave their time to sell poppies.”

“A special thank you also goes to Burnham-On-Sea Rotary Club for all their work in collecting at Lidl in Burnham, plus our cadet services – army, sea, and air – for all their time in the local supermarkets, local schools, the Carnival night collectors, the Food Festival and the local shops where poppies were sold.”

She added that Burnham Army Cadets had raised an “incredible” £3,175 during the fortnight, while the supporters at Churchfield, St Andrew’s, St Josephs, Burnham Infants and Berrow Schools raised a “fantastic” £908.
