Police: ‘Don’t give thieves a window of opportunity during heatwave’

-

Police have this week warned householders in the Burnham-On-Sea area that the unseasonably warm weather could provide a window of opportunity for thieves.

Opportunistic burglars often look for open windows and unlocked doors during hot weather.

So police are urging residents not to leave doors or windows open unless they are in the same room.

The warning also applied to upstairs windows as well since thieves will climb up using a drainpipe or garage roof and could use ladders or garden furniture to help them gain access if they are not secured.

A police spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A large number of burglaries happen due to doors and windows being left unlocked. There are a number of simple ways you can protect your home and yourself from becoming a victim of crime.”
