Pupils launch £14,000 fundraising campaign for educational trip

-

Sponges and buckets were at the ready at Highbridge’s King Alfred School this week when pupils held a fundraising car wash.

A group of 14 youngsters from the school are aiming to raise £14,000 to enable them to go on a once-in-a-lifetime educational trip to Morocco next year.

The car wash, which raised £250, was the first of several events planned for the Burnham area over the coming months.

“The trip consists of ten days living out in the Sahara desert trekking through the Torda gorge and experiencing what life is like in one of the most secluded places on Earth,” one of the group, George Gay, told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

He added: “Our next event on July 19th will be a fun run organised by ourselves when we’ll run from Burnham Jetty to Brean Down.”

“The third event, on September 21st, is a football match when our ‘celebrity’ team will take on Mr Owen’s XI. Our team will contain a few surprises – the main one being an appearance by Bristol City’s Scott Murray. We also hope to have a few players from Exeter City and Bristol Rovers.”

Burnham-On-Sea.com will be following the youngsters’ fundraising efforts.
