A group of young film makers from Bridgwater was in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday (March 6th), capturing scenes for a ‘small screen drama’ about the town’s beach boating pool.
The war memorial, which is set to be demolished shortly, is the focus of a history film by members of Bridgwater’s Engine Room studio.
“The film will revolve around two young people visiting the boating pool and getting transported back to the battlefields of World War One, where they see at first hand the sacrifice that soldiers made for the country,” the studio’s Deb Richardson explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“The film will end with scenes of the pool being removed with the sun setting behind. It will be a powerful dramatisation that will make viewers think about the history.”
The pool, built in the 1920s, was given to Burnham by members of the Braithwaite family, who constructed it in thanks for the safe return of their five sons from the Great War. The discovery of asbestos on the landmark recently delayed the work to demolish the pool, but it is now set to proceed shortly.
