Burnham-On-Sea Pride event organisers explain why it won’t be held this year

-

Organisers of Burnham-On-Sea’s Pride event, Pride on Sea, have announced it won’t be held in 2025.

The event had been expected to return over the summer after the success of last year’s event.

A spokesperson said this week: “It is with heavy hearts that we must announce that Pride on Sea 2025 will not be going ahead.”

“This decision has not been made lightly. Despite months of hard work, it has been more challenging than ever this year to secure the level of funding needed to bring a safe, free to attend event to life.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Town Council for awarding us a grant; however, additional funding opportunities unfortunately did not materialise as we had hoped. This grant has now been returned so that other deserving groups can benefit.”

“Although this is disappointing, this is not the end. We are still working to ensure that our community remains visible. We are excited to share that a Pride fundraising night in support will still take place on the original event date — 26th July 2025 — and will be held at The Vic. This will be a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, celebrate, and show support. We’ll share more details about the event as soon as we have them — so stay tuned!”

“We are pleased to share that some funding has already been secured for Pride-on-Sea 2026, and we are working hard to build on this to deliver an event that is bigger, brighter, and more inclusive than ever before. We always welcome people who would like to help ensure Pride-on-Sea is a massive success to contact us. We would love to hear from you and get you involved in the journey!”

“In light of both national and local events, we firmly believe that coming together to support our local LGBTQAI+ community is more important than ever. Pride is not just a celebration; it is a statement of unity, resilience, and visibility. Over the coming months, you’ll continue to see us supporting and standing alongside local LGBTQAI+ events, demonstrations, and initiatives.”

“We are committed to making sure our voices are heard, our presence is felt, and our community stays strong. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your ongoing support, passion, and solidarity.”

“We can’t wait to see you at The Vic this July — and to welcome you all to Pride-on-Sea 2026!”
