West Huntspill pub is demolished to make way for five new homes

-

A once-popular pub on the outskirts of Highbridge is being demolished this week to make way for a new development of homes.

The Royal Artillery Arms in West Huntspill’s Alstone Lane shut in 2012 after struggling to survive during the financial downturn.

As first reported here last year, the pub’s owner sought planning permission to demolish the building and build a development of five new homes in its place.

Sedgemoor District Council granted approval for the project earlier this month and the work to demolish the building started immediately.

Several nearby residents had sent letters of objection to the council over the plans, claiming the development would be ‘out of keeping’ with surrounding properties and could create access concerns. The development is set to be completed later this year.
