A Burnham-On-Sea teaching assistant has successfully raised hundreds of pounds for a charity close to her heart.

Sam Stockham, who works at Brent Knoll School, was among the 11,000 runners taking part in last week’s Bath Half Marathon to raise money for the MPS Society, Mucopolysacchride Diseases.

Burnham-On-Sea.com first featured Sam’s fundraising efforts last month when she said her run was being inspired by her godson, who has Hunter’s disease, a rare genetic condition that currently has no cure.

“I had a fantastic experience running the Bath Half Marathon,” she told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“I finished in two hours and 12 minutes, which I am extremely proud of. There were 11,000 runners and I finished in 8,112 place.”

“I have managed to raise just over £550, and some money is still coming in, so I am not fully sure of the final amount.”

“I swould like to send out a great big thank you to all of my friends, family and colleagues for their sponsorship.”

“I would also like to thank my husband and children for their continued support and to my mum, dad, auntie and uncle for their support on the day.”

“There were so many people running for different charities and it was the most uplifting experience.”

She is now in training for her next feat – the Bristol Half Marathon later this year – which she will be completing for ASBAH, the Association for Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus.
