VE Day anniversary to be marked at Brent Knoll church with service and school enactment

-

St Michael’s Church in Brent Knoll will be marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a short service at the village’s War Memorial where the children of Brent Knoll School will be performing various scenes and enactments of WWII.

The event will be held on May 8th at 2pm when headteacher Chris Burman will read out the names of evacuees from the original register.

“The ‘evacuees’ (the Year 6 pupils) will respond and share words about the evacuees in the village and about how the war caused families to break up, sometimes temporarily as for the evacuees, sometimes permanently.”

“The Land army will then pretend to dig and hold up carrots, turnips and cabbages. They will then share some words about how many people served on the home front, such as the women of the land army.”

“The children will see a VE Day tea-party, sing and share words about what it meant for the war to be over, and how we thank those who contributed to the allies’ win.”
