The town's Chamber of Trade has been discussing the innovative scheme with fundraisers from the Friends of Burnham War Memorial Hospital in recent weeks and the scheme is set to be formally unveiled at a traders meeting.

Fortnightly bin collections to start
REFUSE collections in parts of Burnham-On-Sea will be cut in frequency from weekly to fortnightly next month when a new kerbside recycling service begins. Somerset Waste Partnership announced the changes on Monday (October 5th) to encourage residents to recycle more.

Seafront race gets underway
OVER sixty runners took part in Burnham's first monthly 5km seafront run of the winter season on Thursday (October 1st). The event, which is run by Burnham Swim and Sports Academy, was won by the Academy's Martin Rogers in a fast time of 17 minutes, 36 seconds.

COASTGUARDS, police and ambulance crews from Burnham-On-Sea rushed to the banks of the River Parrett on Monday afternoon (September 28th) after a walker suffering suspected heart problems dialled 999 for help. A BUSY summer of fundraising at a Brean caravan park has raised over £5,000 for Burnham-On-Sea's rescue hovercraft charity. Dozens of holidaymakers at Diamond Farm in the village have taken part in a series of events, ranging from hair colouring sessions to auctions and raffle for BARB.

A TWO-mile sponsored pull of Burnham’s rescue hovercraft through the streets of Brean raised hundreds of pounds for BARB, the charity behind the life-saving rescue service, on Sunday (September 27th). The Light Of Elizabeth was tugged along Coast Road by the group of country and western fans.

THREE people were hurt after two water skiers collided at a water park near Woolavington on Saturday afternoon (September 26th). Three fire engines from Bridgwater and Burnham-On-Sea, plus a special rescue unit from Bridgwater and a rescue tender from Taunton were called to Middlemoor Water Park at 3.10pm.

Exclusive: POLICE have launched an investigation after a car collided into the roof support of a Burnham-On-Sea petrol station and then allegedly sped off. CCTV footage of the incident on the forecourt of the Esso petrol station in Love Lane is being used to try and find the motorist.

ONE of Burnham-On-Sea's rescue hovercrafts was diverted from a beach training session on Saturday (September 26th) to check on the safety of four people spotted walking across the mudflats at Brean. The Spirit Of Lelaina hovercraft was training at Berrow at 3.30pm when it was tasked to investigate.

VILLAGERS in Berrow held another protest on Saturday (September 26th) as part of their long-running campaign to get a pavement introduced along Coast Road. Berrow's Local Action Team organised the protest in order to put pressure onto Somerset County Council to re-consider its decision not to fund a pathway.

Hospital work nears completion
THE Mayor of Burnham and Highbridge, Derek Cooper, is sponsoring a concert in aid of The Friends of Burnham Hospital, to help boost its funds during the ongoing redevelopment project. The event will take place at The Princess on Friday 16th October - and tickets are now on sale in the town.

BURNHAM-On-Sea artist Clive Hammond-Lovatt has constructed this huge Victorian Lady, made from willow, for Somerset Art Weeks. The huge structure is on show at Musgrove Willows in Westonzoyland for the festival, which runs for the fortnight from September 19th to October 4th.

Police were called to a property in Isleport Lane just before 11am when the resident found the metallic object, which turned out to be part of a wartime bomb shell.

Town car wash raises over £300
MORE than £300 was raised by Highbridge's Dreamscheme and Burnham Fire Service when both teams joined forces to hold a fundraising car wash at the town's fire station on Saturday (September 19th). Burnham's firemen were helped by young members of the Dreamscheme group.

Exclusive: Mobile phone giant O2's bid to build a five metre tall phone mast on top of Burnham-On-Sea's Ritz Cinema looks set to be finally decided next month. The Planning Inspectorate is holding a public inquiry on the proposals on Wednesday 7th October in the town's Princess Hall, which is scheduled to last two days.

FORMER King Alfred School pupils from 1980 to 1985 are searching for old classmates for a reunion to be held in October. Around eight friends including Darren Noad, Sue nee Baker, Adrian Guy, Nicola nee Putt and Nicola nee Solomon, are organising the event on Satirday Ocober 3rd.

Circus set to return this winter
A CIRCUS will be returning to Sanders Garden World near Burnham-On-Sea this winter during the run-up to Christmas. One of the country’s best known circus troupes, Circus Americano, will return to the site at Brent Knoll and host shows from December 7th until January 3rd, 2010.

TV's Orville coming to Burnham!
TV entertainer Keith Harris is set to bring his puppet Orville to Brean for a night of adult comedy next month. Tickets have gone on sale for the special event, to be held at Brean Leisure Park, on Saturday May 8th. This event will have adult themes and will not be suitable for youngsters.

Busy day for town's fire crews
BURNHAM-On-Sea's fire crews had a busy start to the week, dealing with two incidents in three hours on Monday (September 21st). Two people were treated for smoke inhalation after a faulty washing machine caused a fire in a conservatory at West Huntspill. A man and a woman were treated at the scene.

BURNHAM-On-Sea's Avenue Tennis Club celebrated its 100th anniversary with a special Centenary Open Day at the weekend. The Open Day, held on Saturday (19th September), attracted large numbers of current and past members, plus supporters and families.

MP praises care homes staff
BURNHAM-On-Sea's MP, David Heathcoat-Amory, has visited two care homes treating autistic people in the town. Mr Heathcoat-Amory began his visit at Stafford Lodge before moving on to Holly Tree Cottage where he was served lunch by one of the care home's residents, Robin Hookings.

Man assaulted in night time attack
POLICE in Burnham-On-Sea are investigating an alleged assault in the town which occurred during the early hours of Sunday morning (September 20th). A 30 year-old man was attacked as he walked home along Oxford Street after a night out with friends. He was treated by paramedics a short time later.

SEVERAL bright students from Burnham and Highbridge were among those celebrating as they were honoured at a graduation ceremony held by Weston College. Lauren Organ, of Finches Way, and Hayley Dudley of Briar Court, both graduated with Foundation Degrees.

Tom Colls, 9, has finished third in the Taunton Mini Tennis Green Series, held over the past few months - much to the delight of the Academy's staff and coaches. Fifteen boys entered from Somerset, Devon and Avon.

TWO well-known sporting faces from Burnham-On-Sea were celebrating on Sunday (September 20th) after a momentous day at a leading event in France. Mark and Sara Cox-Conklin, who run the Burnham Swim and Sports Academy, have been competing at the 11th annual World Biathle Championships in Monaco.
