The final countdown is underway to this year’s 70th annual Highbridge and Burnham-On-Sea Carnival which takes place on Monday (November 7th).

Dozens of colourful illuminated floats will light up the town, with more than 80 entries in the parade, which will start at 7.30pm.

Forecasters say the weather for Monday evening in Burnham will be chilly, with temperatures of five degrees Centigrade and a light northerly breeze, but it should stay dry for the whole of the procession.

Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club will be displaying its specatcular space-themed float called ‘Reach 4 The Stars’. Other entries to look out for will be Ramblers’ entry ‘Scrapped’ and Gemini’s ‘Phantom’ which are sure to impress the crowds.

Paul Archer, Highbridge and Burnham Carnival Chief Marshall, pictured, said it will be a special parade.

He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It promises to be a cracking year – we have a great team that are putting a lot of work into it – and there are some great entries.”

The entries will be lining up from Saturday evening – after Bridgwater Carnival – along Queens Drive and the Frank Foley Parkway. Road closures will be in operation through the weekend.

The route of Monday’s parade is unchanged, starting as usual in Love Lane, near the town’s Tesco supermarket.

The entries will then wend their way along Love Lane, into Manor Road and Victoria Street, before travelling along Burnham High Street and finishing in Marine Drive.

Carnival Queen Hannah Sainsbury, pictured here alongside her two Carnival Princesses Olivia Moores and Rachael Nicol, will lead the parade after being selected in April.

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Carnival Chairman Phil New added: “It promises to be a fantastic evening – there are lots of great entries this year.”
