BURNHAM-On-Sea Coastguards, hovercrafts and lifeboats were put on alert on Monday evening (January 10th) after a woman was spotted in difficulty in mud on Berrow beach. The middle-aged woman was spotted by police in a distressed state at 4.35pm almost 150 metres from the beach.

TWO quick-thinking residents in Burnham-On-Sea rescued a swan at Highbridge's Apex Park on Monday (January 3rd) after spotting that it had got tangled up in fishing tackle. With help of passers-by, Joy Russell and Graham Hall coaxed the bird to the shore from the main Apex lake.

THE sighting of a flock of seldom-seen birds caused a flap among twitchers in Berrow on Monday (January 3rd). A dozen Waxwing were spotted on the outkirts of the village. The plump bird, which is smaller than a starling, has a prominent reddish-brown crest and a yellow tail.

A GROUP of hardy Burnham-On-Sea fundraisers dashed into the icy waters of Bridgwater Bay today (New Year's Day) to take part in a bracing sea dip. Six swimmers took part in the sponsored sea dip from Burnham beach to raise funds for rescue hovercraft charity BARB and the Coastguard Association.

POLICE have praised drivers for heeding their warnings not to drink and drive over the festive period. Since December 1st, police have arrested 132 motorists following Operation Tonic stop checks across the force area, which is down on previous years .

Police appeal after cars attacked
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after five vehicles were vandalised in a Highbridge street earlier this week. The yobs struck in Worston Lane during Boxing Day evening by damaging and removing the wing mirrors of parked cars. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers.
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after five vehicles were vandalised in a Highbridge street earlier this week. The yobs struck in Worston Lane during Boxing Day evening by damaging and removing the wing mirrors of parked cars. Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers.
