A talented 12-year-old dancer from Burnham‑On‑Sea has clinched two world titles at the Worlds Freestyle Championship this month.
Isla Gardner not only wowed the judges but also took home a win in both her freestyle solo and slow performances, a feat rarely seen at any age and extraordinary for someone so young, being the first person to achieve this in the south of England.
She says she was in disbelief when she heard her number called as the world champion for her slowdance on Saturday night and she went on to win again for a second time on the Sunday night for her solo dance!
“When they called my name, I thought I was dreaming. To win one world title was amazing, but to win two was just unreal,” says Isla.
“I’ve worked so hard for this, training every week at Dynamics School Of Dance in Bristol, pushing myself even when it was tough.”
“I couldn’t have done it without my amazing dance teachers, my family, and my teammates who always cheer me on. This is the best moment of my life so far – I’m so proud and so, so happy!”
Isla trains in Bristol twice a week and attends multiple freestyle competitions throughout the year in the build-up to the worlds, perfecting her skill.
