THIS was the scene on the M5 mtorway this evening (Friday, November 4th) following a major accident which has shut the motorway in both directions. Police say 26 vehicles - 20 light vehicles and six articulated lorries - were involved in the collision, which has closed the M5 in both directions.

TORRENTIAL rain caused flooding in the Burnham-On-Sea area this afternoon (Friday, November 4th). Fire crews were called to The Esplanade at 4.15pm after rain water gushed through the ceiling of a flat, causing damage. A large amount of water came through the ceiling and crews were called to the flat under.

A WOMAN was taken to hospital and two other people were injured in an accident outside Highbridge's King Alfred School this morning (Wednesday, November 2nd). Burnham Road was briefly blocked when a Peugeot 206 and a Vauxhall Corsa collided head-on at the junction of North Avenue.

BURNHAM-On-Sea Coastguards waded through thick mud to reach a man stuck in the River Brue estuary this afternoon (Tuesday, November 1st). Burnham RNLI's lifeboats, police and BARB were called to the scene, near Highbridge's Apex Wildlife Park, at 4pm.

A SURVEY of residents living near the site of a proposed wind farm development on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea has found overwhelming opposition to the scheme. NoPilrow, the campaign group, asked 624 residents for their opinions during a survey throughout October.

BIG crowds of spectators are expected to line Burnham's seafront on Sunday (November 6th) to watch the town's annual fireworks display. Hundreds of spectacular fireworks will be fired from the town's jetty during a dazzling 20-minute display which will get underway at 7.30pm.

FUN-loving motorcyclists in fancy dress costumes roared through Highbridge on Sunday (October 30th) at the start of a sponsored 35-mile bike ride. Members of the Somerset Motorcycle Group organised the ride from Highbridge's Bristol Bridge Inn to Watchet harbour.

FIRE crews from Burnham-On-Sea rushed to Brean on Sunday evening (October 30th) to extinguish a caravan fire. Two fire engines were called to Brean's Unity Farm holiday park in Coast Road at 6.34pm after a security officer reported the blaze when a smoke alarm was activated.

The display at Brean Leisure Park will get started at 7.30pm, giving visitors an opportunity to enjoy the fun park rides before the display begins. THE body of a woman who was found near railway tracks earlier this week was formally identified on Friday (October 28th) as missing Highbridge woman Edith Joan Batten. The 79 year-old was discovered by railway staff at Dunball foot crossing, between Highbridge and Bridgwater, on Tuesday.
