Mayor and Mayoress launch Burnham-On-Sea’s 2011 Poppy Appeal

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Mayor and Mayoress launched the town’s annual poppy appeal on Friday (October 28th).

Michael and Maria Clarke were the special guests at the event, organised by members of Burnham’s Royal British Legion at their HQ in Victoria Street.

Poppy collectors will be seen across the town over coming days in the run-up to Burnham’s annual Remembrance Day commemorations.

Norman Lees, Chairman of Burnham Royal British Legion, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were really pleased to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress at the launch of this year’s Poppy Appeal and to show them all the work that is going on behind the scenes by our volunteers in the run-up to Remembrance Day on November 13th.”

He added: “I would urge local people to dig deep and buy a poppy to help with the fundraising.”

The Legion is always keen to hear from local people able to help as Poppy sellers – volunteers can visit the Legion’s shop in Victoria Street or call 01278 780146.

The Poppy Appeal raises funds for The Royal British Legion, the nation’s leading Armed Forces charity providing care and support to all members of the British forces community.
