New healthy walks programme to launch in Burnham-On-Sea

-

People in the Burnham-On-Sea area are being encouraged to pull on their walking boots and join a series of outdoor walks, which start on Monday (September 6th).

Sedgemoor District Council’s Healthy Lifestyles team is launching the ‘Walking for Health’ programme, which includes a number of free guided local walks arranged in conjunction with Natural England with the aim of encouraging people to be active.

“The new programme runs from September to December this year and features new weekly Monday Morning Ambles that are aimed at those wishing to walk at slower paces and shorter distances,” spokeswoman Claire Faun told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“The ambles are ideally designed for those recovering from illness or injury, plus the elderly, people with disabilities and anyone new to exercise.”

The first event will be held at 10am on Monday (September 6th) at Highbridge’s Apex Park.

Walkers will meet at Apex Park’s main car park and wander through the park, along the River Brue to Burnham beach and back.

The full schedule of walks can be downloaded here or you can contact the council’s Health Promotion Co-ordinator on 01278 435715 to get a paper copy sent to you. Volunteer Walk Leaders are also bought sought.
