Thousands of pounds look set to be spent by the Town Council on updating “tired and deteriorating” information signs around Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge.
Councillors are this week considering proposals to spend up to £15,000 on upgrading signs to make it easier for visitors to find their way around and enhance the appearance of the two towns.
“The Town Council’s destination and information signs in both Highbridge and Burnham are old or missing and now look tired with deteriorating frames,” says Town Clerk Tatiana Cant.
Highbridge Chamber Of Trade has also called for “confusing” signage at Highbridge Railway Station’s platform entrance to be improved as connecting bus travel information is not quick to find or understand.
The council’s Town Projects Committe will this week consider a proposal to replace signs/frames at Burnham-On-Sea’s Oxford Street car park, at the railway station, and outside Highbridge’s Alpha House.
The council says the previous costs for the signs in 2015 was £3,000 per sign.
