Burnham-On-Sea Scout leader denies sexual abuse charges

-

A Burnham-On-Sea Scout leader pleaded not guilty to a number of child sex abuse offences when he appeared in court on Thursday (May 5th).

David Burland, 53, appeared at Taunton Magistrates’ Court.

He was recently charged with 14 counts of sexual assault, 12 indecent assaults, six counts of inciting sexual activity and one count of indecent exposure.

The case has been referred to Taunton Crown Court on June 30th and Mr Burland has been released on conditional bail.

The Scout Association said earlier this year that Mr Burland had been suspended from any form of contact with the movement as soon as the allegations were reported. He has been involved in the Scouting since the 1990s.
