Berrow’s Gig On Green won’t be held in 2012 without sponsors

-

The future of Berrow’s long-running outdoor music event, the Gig On The Green and the village’s summer fete are hanging in the balance following a public meeting on Monday night (August 13th).

The meeting, which was attended by just three members of the public, was called by Berrow Community Association, which organises the events, following criticism about how they have been run.

Co-organiser Lynn Smith told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was agreed that Berrow Community Association’s Entertainments Team would not be organising the Gig next year unless a sponsor or sponsors come forward to help to turn it into a viable fundraising event.”

“At the meeting it was also agreed that the Berrow Fayre would not happen in 2013 unless more volunteers come forward to help with the organising.”

“The Entertainments Team will continue to organise a number of smaller fundraising events in the Village Hall which will be advertised in the normal way.”

“The team hopes that residents will continue to support these events as they have in the past.”

Those with suggestions regarding events that could be held in the hall should forward them to Lynn by email here.

The Berrow gig’s future has been in doubt after this year’s event made a loss of over £500, following a further loss in 2011 of over £800.

The organisers switched the location of this year’s event from the village green to the village playing fields in a bid to cut costs.
