O2 hopes to keep ‘temporary’ phone mast in Burnham for extra year

-

Mobile phone giant O2 has applied for planning permission to keep a ‘temporary’ phone mast in the centre of Burnham-On-Sea for another year.

The company has asked to Sedgemoor District Council for full planning permission to retain the 15-metre mast, which is located south of Pier Street next to the RNLI station, for an additional 12 months.

The mast is mounted on a portable trailer and was first installed in May 2007 after O2 was forced to remove a controversial phone mast in nearby Marine Drive.

It now wants more time – until May 2009 – to find a permanent site in the Burnham area for the mast.

Sedgemoor District Council planners are expected to decide on the firm’s application during June and local residents have until May 15th to submit their feedback.
