A Burnham-On-Sea man has been sent to prison for three and a half years after being found guilty of a rape in the town.
Nathan John Miller, 20, of Steart Avenue, was sentenced at Taunton Crown Court following the rape of a woman, aged 19, last January.
The jurors heard that the pair had been drunk and had flirted in a pub before going to Miller’s parents’ house where the incident occurred.
The judge, Recorder Alun Jenkins, decided against a lengthier jail term after the victim asked for leniency and did not think Miller should be imprisoned.
While Miller denied the charge, he admitted having difficulty in remembering what had happened.
Several of his friends and relatives who were in court to hear the judgement burst into tears on hearing the sentence. The court was told Miller had previous convictions for drinking and dangerous driving, but nothing of a similar nature.
