Council tenants get their say
COUNCIL tenants in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge are being invited to express their views about a new 'arms length' management organisation that has been set up to oversee their homes. A series of meetings and displays are to be held in coming days.
Cycle race may visit Burnham
THE annual Tour of Britain cycle race could pass near to Burnham-On-Sea after a deal was signed this week to bring the popular race to Somerset each year from 2007 until 2011. The County Council has agreed a deal that will see Somerset as a focal point for the race.

SIX MEMBERS of a Burnham-On-Sea church waded into the waters of Bridgwater Bay on Sunday morning, September 10th, to be baptized in a ceremony in the sea. The Community Church members picked the sea instead of the usual swimming pool.
Hot rods thunder into town
ALMOST 100 classic American hot rods and trucks thundered through Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday (September 9th) in a mass procession of enthusiasts' vehicles. The Blue Ridge Runners hold their cruise each year at this time and made through Highbridge and Burnham.
150 entries at Ritz craft show
A KNITTED bear with a gardening theme scooped one of the top awards at Burnham-On-Sea's annual Ritz Club Produce and Craft Show on Saturday (September 9th). Jenny Taylor said she was "thrilled to bits" to have won the trophy for the show's best craft entries.
Coast Radio may go full-time
BREAN-based radio station Coast Radio is considering becoming a permanent all-year-round service from next year. Owner Josh Haywood, pictured, told Burnham-On-Sea.com this week that the station's second summer of broadcasts had been highly successful.
Parkway signs to be repaired
DIVERSION signs at a controversial Burnham-On-Sea road junction are set to be repaired during the next fortnight after being damaged in a car accident. The diversion signs along The Frank Foley Parkway were damaged by a vehicle travelling at speed.
Trio of otters progressing well
THREE orphaned otters rescued in January this year are embarking on the next stage of their preparations for life in the great outdoors. The three siblings - females Splish and Splash and their brother Splosh - have been reared by Secret World's staff near Burnham.

Elver fisherman is banned
AN ANGLER has been banned from elver fishing for two years after being caught using an illegal net on the River Parrett near Burnham-On-Sea. The Environment Agency said on Wednesday (September 6th) that Jason Riddle had also been fined £140 and had his net confiscated.
NHS dental provision attacked
THE lack of NHS dental provision in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge is "unacceptable" and needs to be addressed by health bosses according to town councillors this week. Councillor Joanna Burridge said there are too few dentists offering NHS dental services.
Final rehearsals for town show
FINAL rehearsals are underway at a Burnham-On-Sea drama group, which is preparing to perform its annual show this weekend. The Burnham Excellent Entertainment Society (BEES) are performing the hit musical Annie at the town's The Princess Theatre.

Beach race is runaway success

THE Highbridge-based National Blind Children's Society has axed the jobs of 35 of its telemarketing staff just a month after announcing it was putting its lottery fundraising activities under review. The charity had suffered a fall in income from its lottery.
New £300,000 kids centre planned
PLANS to build a brand new £300,000 children's centre in Burnham-On-Sea moved a step closer on Monday (Sep 4th) when the county council unveiled plans for the building to town councillors. The proposed building was originally proposed for the centre of Burnham.

ONE of Burnham-On-Sea's longest serving members of the Special Constabulary has retired after 21 years in the job. Alan Matthews has become a familiar face in the Burnham and Highbridge areas throughout his years of service, which began when he joined as a special in 1985.
