Two people have been arrested in Burnham-On-Sea following the theft of a charity collection box from a High Street shop.

The men visited Specsavers at lunchtime last Monday to book an appointment and walked away minutes later with the charity box.

Police spokesman Wayne Baker told on Friday (August 25th) that two men – one of whom was in his 20s and another in his 40s – had been arrested in nearby Marine Drive shortly after the incident at around 1.50pm.

“They were arrested on suspicion of theft and the possession of a weapon,” he said.

The store said the collection box had been full of money for the Highbridge-based National Blind Children’s Society.
