Burnham-On-Sea fire crews called to help teenager with ‘severe burns’ after bonfire blaze

Burnham-On-Sea fire crews were called out this afternoon (Saturday, December 22nd) to help a teenager who suffered ‘severe burns’ after using incorrect accelerates to light a bonfire.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received multiple calls reporting a tree on fire at a property in Bridgwater shortly after 4pm.

“The fire control immediately sent one fire appliance from Burnham-On-Sea to attend this incident,” said a spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

“On arrival the incident commander confirmed the fire had been extinguished by a resident using a garden hose prior to the arrival of the firefighters.”

“The incident commander requested the attendance of ambulance for one teenager suffering burns. Crews got to work assisting ambulance paramedics with casualty care. “

“The cause of the fire was due to the incorrect accelerates used to light the bonfire resulting in severe burns to a teenager.”

“The incident commander would like to promote the correct methods are used to ignite a fire to avoid injury.”
