Police say woman died in incident that closed rail services through Somerset

-

British Transport Police say a person sadly died after being struck by a train in an incident that closed the railway line through Somerset on Thursday evening (April 4th).

Rail services between Taunton and Bristol Temple Meads were cancelled for over two hours, with Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge railway station also temporarily closed.

A British Transport Police spokesman confirmed: “Officers were called to the lines close to Weston Milton station at 6.55pm on Thursday following reports of a casualty on the tracks.”

“Paramedics also attended but sadly a woman in her twenties was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
