-

Burnham’s Mayor opened the 66th annual Highbridge Festival Of The Arts on Thursday (March 7th) as ten days of competition got underway.

Hundreds of talented youngsters from the ages of three upwards will be competing at The Princess Theatre and Arts Centre until March 16th.

Dance is being featured in the first competition classes this week with dozens of entries covering ballet, tap, modern, contemporary, cabaret and Greek.

Speech and Drama will then take centre stage with poetry, prose, choral and speech being performed on stage before singing and instrumental music take over for the final part of the festival.

Maureen Phillips, the festival’s General Secretary told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It promises to be another superb festival. There has been lots of interest from competitors in the many classes.”

Members of the public are welcome to attend the daily sessions, which start at 10am and approximately 2pm.
