The community group that runs Burnham-On-Sea’s tourist information centre has celebrated the end of another busy summer season.
Dozens of volunteers from BIARS (Burnham Information and Rescue Support) attended a dinner evening at the Berrow Inn on Saturday (October 20th).
BIARS Chairman Neville Jones said the event was held to mark the end of another busy season despite poor weather.
“We have handled over 130,000 visitors since taking over the centre from Sedgemoor District Council and in that time we have turned around its fortunes,” he said.
Burnham’s Mayor Ken Smout congratulated the team of volunters for all they do to keep the centre operational throughout the year, calling them “a credit to our town.”
The evening was organised by the centre’s recently-appointed manager, Ian Jefferies, who said a number of new seafront events are being planned for next season to help further develop Burnham as a tourist destination.
