A project to decorate two seafront shelters in Burnham-On-Sea with colourful seaside scenes has been delayed by an embarrassing mix-up.
Paula Lundy, pictured, has been employed by the district council to illustrate the vandalised seating shelters in Marine Cove gardens with scenes of the town’s famous lighthouse, beach and Bristol Channel.
But Burnham-On-Sea.com learns Paula’s work has suffered a set-back this week after community service workers mistakenly erased her work with grey paint.
Paula explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’d spent several hours painting the bottom coat of my design on the southern shelter, only to find that some well-meaning community service workers had come along and painted over it all with grey paint.”
“They hadn’t been told about the work I was doing and thought they were meant to paint over my design, which was very frustrating.”
“Apparently, the community service manager was away and this led to the misunderstanding.”
“I’ve started again, and providing there are no further mishaps or weather delays, I hope to have the designs finished soon.”
Burnham-On-Sea.com reported last week that dozens of people had flocked to the gardens for a special open day when Sedgemoor’s Parks and Open Spaces Officers encouraged residents to find out more about restoration plans.
