New shatter-proof Highbridge clock face should stand the test of time

-

Highbridge’s historic three-sided clock has been repaired after being damaged by vandals earlier this year – and is now more resilient than ever.

Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report in June how a glass face on the iconic clock had been smashed by a vandal, much to the disbelief of local residents.

Now, though, the clock face has received several hundred pounds of repairs and is sporting a tough new face made of perspex.

“It’s been repaired using shatter-proof, transparent perspex,” confirmed Sedgemoor District Council spokeswoman Claire Faun to Burnham-On-Sea.com on Thursday (November 6th).

Although the clock is showing the wrong time, local residents have welcomed the repairs.

Highbridge councillor Joe Leach told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “I’m delighted it has been been repaired and hope that it will be shown more respect in the future.”

“It was so sad that someone would damage such a wonderful clock that has been a part of Highbridge’s history for many decades.”

“It is one of the few parts of ‘old Highbridge’ that has stayed untouched during recent years.”
